UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Undergraduate students start their studies during the first year of the programme in the foundation for engineering i.e. mathematics, physics and chemistry courses. All Physics and Chemistry courses should be completed during the first year. Mathematics courses are distributed from semester I until semester VI. They will study civil engineering courses starting from the second year until the final semester. They will study fundamental courses in civil engineering in the following areas of civil engineering:

  • Structural Engineering.

  • Geotechnical Engineering.

  • Transportation Engineering.

  • Water Engineering.

  • Environmental Engineering.

  • Project Management & Construction.

In addition to the above courses, undergraduate students will also study other technical courses such as Engineering Surveying, Engineering Geology, Computer Programming and Computer Aided Designand Engineering. The use of computer applications and software is integrated throughout the programme. They will also study English and Bahasa Malaysia languages, technical communication, moral/religious studies and humanities courses in order to produce graduates who are not only technically competent but also ethically professional and able to communicate effectively with others.

Undergraduate students will do a major civil engineering project as their final year project before graduating from the programme. They will apply the knowledge that they have gained in the programme to perform real-life civil engineering project. They will experience doing the work that civil engineers do and at the same time being guided by faculty members.

Graduate students are expected to be involved in the latest or state-of-the-art research activities. The students should be able to produce quality research papers as a result of their research work for their Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Wherever possible and appropriate, the research findings will be commercialised by the University.

The Department of Civil Engineering is continuously developing the following eleven (11) laboratories:

  • Civil Engineering Materials Laboratory

  • Structural Engineering Materials Laboratory

  • Engineering Mechanics Laboratory

  • Soil Mechanics Laboratory

  • Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory

  • Engineering GeologyLaboratory

  • Highway & Pavement Engineering Laboratory

  • Transportation and Traffic Engineering Laboratory

  • Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory

  • Environmental Engineering Laboratory

  • Engineering Surveying Laboratory

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
