Sustainable Energy Research and Education (SERENE) Group

    Sustainable Energy Research and Education (SERENE) Group was founded in May 2006. It aims to become the national centre of excellence in the area of sustainable energy. The group conducts research projects and consultancy work in the area of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The resources that are currently studied are from solar, ocean and wind energy. The group also looks into environmentally friendly transports using electric vehicles and fuel cells. The group collaborates with industries such as TNB Distribution, TNB Generation Asset Development (GAD) and other research organizations such as TNB Research, ILES Research Sdn Bhd, McGill University (Canada), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
  Areas of Interest
1. Renewable Energy (RE) Utilization in Power Generation
covers the studies on electricity generation from the RE resources and the control system and power electronics involved in the energy extraction.
2. Energy efficient and green transports technology
covers the studies on new prime mover and energy storage technology
