Master of Science in Accounting (By Research)
This programme is a research-based degree designed for candidates who wish to advance knowledge in accounting and related disciplines. It emphasises independent research, critical analysis, and scholarly inquiry in areas such as financial reporting, auditing, governance, and accounting systems, preparing graduates for careers in research, academia, policy development, and advanced professional practice.

 

About Programme

Master of Science in Accounting (By Research) is a programme designed for professional and academics seeking career advancement in accounting, finance, and other business-related areas.

The programme compromises taught courses and a thesis. Students are required to produce an accounting related thesis that demonstrates students understanding on the theoretical foundations, ethical judgements, and critical and strategic thinking ability of emerging accounting issues.

Program Structure:
The program can be completed within 2-3 years for full-time candidates and 3-4 years for part-time candidates. Candidates who enroll in this program are required to register for the following courses:
  • ARPM634 Research Project
  • MGTM512 Research Methodology Seminar

Entry Requirements

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75, as accepted by the UNITEN Senate; OR

  2. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 and not meeting a CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted subject to a thorough rigorous assessment as determined by the UNITEN; OR

  3.  A Bachelor’s degree in Non-Accounting field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted subject to:
        1. A thorough rigorous assessment as determined by the UNITEN to identify the appropriate prerequisite courses that equivalent to their minimum of working experience; OR

        2. Five (5) years of working experience in the relevant field; OR                   
  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field below a CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of five (5) years of working experience in the relevant field; OR

  2. A Bachelor’s degree in Non-Accounting field with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 can be accepted subject to a thorough rigorous assessment as determined by the UNITEN to identify the appropriate prerequisite courses that equivalent to their working experience in the Accounting or related fields; OR
        1. A relevant professional accounting qualification equivalent to a bachelor’s degree as accepted by the UNITEN Senate; OR

        2. Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree recognised by the Government of Malaysia must fulfil the requirement on point i or ii.
  • For International students: You are required to fulfill one of the English proficiency score stated below to enroll at UNITEN. Postgraduate students who do not fulfill this English requirement are required to sit for Intensive English Programme (IEP) and pass the requirement below before starting their postgraduate requirement.
        1. Malaysia University English Test (MUET) – achieved Band 4 and above
        2. IELTS - achieved 5.5 and above
        3. TOEFL (Internet-based Test) – achieved 8 and above
