Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (By Research)

Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (By Research) is a full research program where candidates are given unique opportunity to follow their interest in a specialized area of research of Electrical/Electronic Engineering for 2-4 years (depending on the study mode either full- time or part-time) and make an important academic contribution to the knowledge of chosen research area. Prospective candidates are future researchers / academicians in universities and / or research institutions, R&D Engineers, Engineering Specialists and Technopreneurs.
i. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or equivalent, as accepted by the UNITEN Senate; or
ii. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and not meeting CGPA of 2.75, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment; or
iii. A bachelor’s degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to a minimum of 5 years working experience in the relevant field and rigorous internal assessment.
iv. Candidates without a qualification in the related fields or relevant working experience must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses determined by the HEP and meet the minimum CGPA based on (i) to (iii).
v. For international students: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 500 or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or its equivalent.
The program can be completed within 2-3 years for full-time candidates and 3-4 years for part-time candidates. Candidates who enroll in this program are required to register for the following courses:

The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (By Research) program gives a solid grounding for a career in electrical engineering, either in industry or in academia. The program focuses on research in one of the research areas in electrical power engineering such as, power system analysis, power quality, smart grid, renewable energy and sustainability, as wells as, research areas in electronics and communication engineering, such as, microelectronics, photonic technologies, intelligent sensing and processing and wireless technology and application. The strengths of the program lies within the major engineering design experience; all-rounded curriculum; use of contemporary engineering design and modeling tools throughout the curriculum. On completion of the program, students have necessary skills for both research and development.
Thus, there are plenty of job opportunities available for graduates of the program to either work as an engineer in industry, namely, electrical power, electronics and telecommunication engineering, or in academia, as it offers a gateway to PhD studies. Our graduates have found employment in the industrial sectors as electrical engineer, project engineer, service engineer, supply planning engineer, electrical consultant and manager, as well as in academic sectors as lecturers.
