The Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM) was established on March 2012, as one of the Centres of Excellence in the College of Engineering, Universiti Tenaga Nasional. The group aims to become a centre of excellence in research, development and testing of advanced materials and the processing of engineering materials. Centre for Advanced Material CAM) UNITEN is meant to serve as the center of information, research and consultancy activities and te​​​sting equipment related to advancement in en​gineering materials. The center aims to promote and develop research and development work activities, and carry out consultancy services from a multidisciplinary approach.

The group has secured more than RM 1.5 million ringgit from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MoSTI) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) of Malaysia to support our research activities. The group has an excellent network with industries and research organization such as TNB Research, Hi-Tech Instruments, SIRIM Berhad, International Islamic University Malaysia, University Putra Malaysia, University Kebangsaan Malaysia, University Malaya, RMIT University, Australia, Advanced Materials Research Centre Malaysia and Clemson University USA. Our research facility is equipped with powder processing equipment, rapid heating high-temperature furnace, standard analytical equipment for powder characterization, Instron universal testing machine and X-ray diffractometer. In addition, through our smart-partnership we have access to injection molding machine, atomic force microscope, SEM, TEM, hot isostatic pressing, Vickers hardness tester, etc. The group research interest includes nanomaterials, engineering ceramics, composites, polymers, biopolymers and metallic based materials.

The proposed Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM) shall have a visionary target to be a leading research centre in developing and processing of advanced materials. With that aim we are working continuously for the improvement of the centre and hence targeted to be equipped with SEM and injection molding machine in near future. As the materials usage and engineering designs are constantly changing with an accelerated speed, CAM will open the scope of advance research and testing facilities. Moreover, with the combination of experienced and specialized technical resources, laboratory testing capabilities, the centre will be able to play a pivotal role in undertaking the research and consultancy activities related to advanced engineering materials.​​
