SAMI SALAMA HUSSEN HAJJAJ; Capabilities Of Cermet Tools When High Speed Machining Austenitic Stainless Steel; Journal Of Applied Science 6 (4): 779-784; Journal of Applied Science 6 (4): 779-784(This is actually my Final Year Project for my degree, which was completed years earlier, but published only in this year) it investigates the strength and ability of cermet tool in High Speed Machining (HSM) of Austenitic Stainless Steel. The main objective is to use HSM to lower production costs and increase productivity. however, HSM is not possible due to severe tool wear on regular tools, cermet tools with its unique properties, offered a possible candidate to handle HSM and indeed increase production rate. the work found evidence of improved tool life, and therefore increased productivity. ; 01 Oct 2006; Journal; SCOPUS
  2. SAMI SALAMA HUSSEN HAJJAJ; A Study Of Machining Characteristics OfStrontium Modified Lm-6 Alloy; The International Conference On Engineering And Ict, 2007. Icei 2007; The eutectic aluminium silicon alloy (LM-6) is known to have poor machinability. This work explains the effect of strontium modification on increasing machinability of LM-6 alloy. Samples of LM-6 alloy were prepared; sand cast, die cast, heat treated, and non-heat treated samples were created in pairs, strontium modified and unmodified, resulting in eight different combinations of LM-6 alloy samples. These samples were put to identical physical and machining tests, their microstructures were photographed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) photography. To remove statistical error, each test was conducted three times. Results showed that strontium addition to LM-6 alloy resulted in refining its microstructure; large silicon flakes in the un-modified LM-6 alloy were transformed into fine and well dispersed globular grains. Also, strontium modified samples produced a 4% reduction in hardness, a 7% increase in ductility and a 36% reduction in average flank wear, thus Strontium addition resulted in improving its machinability. Strontium addition improved machinability of LM-6 alloy by primarily refining its microstructure; reduced grain size of the hard silicon particles resulted in reduction of the abrasive effect on the tool face. Evidence of this can be shown in the fact that dramatic reductions in flank tool wear rate were observed only when the microstructure was refined, furthermore, SEM figures of cutting tools that cut modified samples showed great reduction in abrasive wear.; 01 Oct 2007; Conference Proceeding; None
  3. SAMI SALAMA HUSSEN HAJJAJ; The Robofriend Research Project; The 6Th Inter. Conf. On Intelligent Unmanned Systems 2010 Icius 2010; The RoboFriend project is a student-based research project created to utilize elements of Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) in tackling the problem of motion planning in dynamic environment for robots with higher DOFs. By developing a humanoid robotic arm (9 DOFs), to be controlled using visual and/or audio input signals from users, and use these queues to learn to avoid similar obstacles in the future. This project was divided into 4 major sub-projects; development of the gripper (wrist to fingers), development of manipulator (shoulder to wrist), development of the electronics and controls, and finally development of the HRI interface. Each sub-project was given to an engineering student, to be completed as his/her final year engineering project. Being a student-based project, this work had a secondary objective; to investigate the effectiveness of incorporating robotics research in undergraduate engineering education. Challenges included the design/development of the humanoid gripper, due to its conflicting design parameters of flexibility and structural stability. At the end, the humanoid arm was made to response to human voice. Data also showed that research enhanced students? learning experience as students were able to demonstrate their recently acquired knowledge in contributing to this work.
