UNITEN Secures Second-Highest Rank Nationally for 2025 Patent Filings Among Private Universities

13 February 2026 - Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) has reached a significant milestone in research excellence, securing the No. 2 spot in the national ranking for patent filings among private higher education institutions (IPTS) for 2025. This recognition was officially announced by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) on 13 February 2026.

The ranking underscores UNITEN’s robust research ecosystem, which consistently generates industry-relevant and market-ready solutions. By prioritising the protection of intellectual property, the university ensures that its innovations translate into long-term impact for the energy sector and beyond.

Combined with the university’s recent surge in copyright filings, this milestone demonstrates a comprehensive IP strategy spanning both digital advancements and hardware inventions.
