UNITEN, MTDC Forge Strategic Partnership to Upscale 'Bio-VegeGrout' Commercialisation

In a decisive move to drive local innovations into the commercial market, the Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) conducted an official working visit to the Disaster Risk Reduction Laboratory at Universiti Tenaga Nasional’s (UNITEN) National Energy Centre (NEC) on 11 May 2026.
The visit served as a critical follow-up to the Due Diligence Evaluation Session for the Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) Series 1, which took place last month at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). The breakthrough project is spearheaded by a dedicated UNITEN research team, led by Assoc. Prof. P.Geol. Gs. Dr. Rohayu Che Omar, in close collaboration with UNITEN R&D Sdn. Bhd. (URND).
The MTDC delegation was led by Mohamad Ameer Bukhqari Mohamad Nor, Assistant Vice President I and Fund Manager of NTIS. On hand to receive the delegation were URND Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhamad Mansor and Head of Innovation Management & Technology Transfer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fairuz Abdullah.
The primary objective of the high-level visit was to observe the research and development (R&D) activities, alongside the production ecosystem, of 'Bio-VegeGrout', an eco-friendly, self-sustaining ground stabilisation system (VG3S).
During the briefing session, Dr. Rohayu presented the product's comprehensive development roadmap, focusing heavily on production upscaling and commercialisation strategies backed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).
UNITEN has expressed its deepest appreciation to MTDC for its steadfast commitment to strengthening the commercialisation of university-led technologies. The institution voiced strong optimism that this strategic collaboration will successfully propel homegrown green innovations toward broader industrial and commercial success.
