The BEM Graduate Assessment Program (BEM-GAP) is instrumental in facilitating route for the following purposes :
  1. Registration as a Graduate Engineer
  2. Change of Registered Engineering Branch (Graduate Engineer) to Electrical Engineering

About Program

The offered courses encompass foundational and advanced elements within electrical power engineering, presenting a comparable curriculum to that of the UNITEN Bachelor of Electrical Power Engineering (Hons) program.

The program is offered in two teaching delivery modes:

Mode 1: Weekdays physical classes from Monday to Friday during the day. Classes are conducted at UNITEN Putrajaya Campus.

Mode 2: Weekend hybrid classes (Classes are online but assessments are physical, conducted at UNITEN Putrajaya Campus.)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

New Applicant FAQ

The BEM-GAP (Graduate Assessment Pathway) is a structured academic top-up program that allows engineering graduates to fulfil requirements to register as Graduate Engineers with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). UNITEN offers the BEM-GAP for Electrical Engineering.

Eligibility includes graduates with non-WA accredited engineering degrees, those wishing to change branches within BEM registration, engineering technologists seeking Graduate Engineer status, and other engineering-related degree holders that require academic bridging.

Yes. Graduates with a Bachelor in Engineering Technology (ET) are eligible to apply for the BEM-GAP programme, provided that you have already registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as an Engineering Technologist (ET).

Applications are made through UNITEN’s online portal. Applicants must check UNITEN’s official training & services website & application portal for updated timelines.

BEM GAP Application Portal: https://apply.uniten.edu.my/CPOnline/

You may check through our website for BEM GAP for the exact date.

Once applications open, you may submit your documents and apply online via:

BEM GAP Application Portal: https://apply.uniten.edu.my/CPOnline/

You will need to upload the following documents:

  1. Academic certificate and transcript
  2. BEM registration certificate showing your status as an Engineering Technologist (ET) or Graduate Engineer (if related)
  3. Course outlines of relevant subjects for credit transfer evaluation
    • A course outline is a document showing the syllabus, topics taught, CLOs, etc.

You may refer to the list of required BEM-GAP courses here:
Links of program structure (https://www.uniten.edu.my/all-programmes/training-services/bem-graduate-assessment-program-bem-gap-in-electrical-engineering/)

If you have completed similar courses with sufficient depth, you may receive credit transfer.

Fees typically include a one-time registration fee and per-subject charges. Example: Registration RM2,880 and RM1,480 per subject. Fees may vary depending on the semester and UNITEN regulations. (Please refer to update from the BEM GAP page on Fees)

Two modes are available: Mode 1: Fulltime - Weekday physical classes at UNITEN Putrajaya Campus, and Mode 2: Part Time - Weekend hybrid classes combining online lectures and physical assessments for working adults.

Mode 1 – Weekday Physical (Full On-Campus)

  • Monday–Friday (fulltime)
  • Conducted physically at UNITEN Putrajaya Campus

Mode 2 – Weekend Hybrid

  • Weekend online classes (Saturday & Sunday, 9.00am – 5.00pm)
  • Assessments are physical at UNITEN Putrajaya Campus

No full-online mode is available, as BEM requires physical assessments.

Total of 19 Subjects (Please refer to the program structure published).

Candidates who wish to register as a Graduate Engineer (GE) through the BEM-GAP pathway are required to complete the 19 compulsory subjects, which cover the core areas of Electrical Engineering as required by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM). (Please refer to the program structure published)

For candidates who wish to change their BEM registration branch to Electrical Engineering, the following subjects are required under the BEM-GAP programme:

  1. Circuit Analysis 2
  2. Power System 1
  3. Power System 2
  4. Electrical Machines and Drives
  5. Power Electronics

Yes. If you have previously completed courses equivalent to the required BEM-GAP subjects, you may be eligible for credit transfer through a formal evaluation process. Applicants may transfer up to 60% of the total program credits, depending on prior qualifications, entry requirements and the results of an institutional credit transfer assessment.

Credit requirements vary by intake, but generally around 66 credit hours. Credit transfer of up to 60% may be allowed for those with relevant prior learning, subject to UNITEN approval.

Credit transfer is evaluated during the application process. Applicants must submit their academic transcript and course outlines for all relevant subjects. The faculty will review these documents to determine equivalency based on course content, depth, and learning outcomes. Eligible subjects may be transferred, subject to UNITEN’s approval and the maximum allowable credit transfer limit.

Credit transfer is applied automatically during your BEM-GAP application (during application period on the system)

BEM GAP Application Portal: https://apply.uniten.edu.my/CPOnline/

You must upload your academic transcript and detailed course outlines for all relevant subjects when submitting your online application. The faculty will review these documents as part of the official credit transfer evaluation.

You will be offered the BEM-GAP program together with the official list of subjects granted credit transfer and the list of subjects you are required to take, which will be stated in the offer letter.

You may still proceed to enroll in the BEM-GAP program; however, without the course syllabus, we will not be able to grant any credit transfer as the faculty cannot evaluate subject equivalency.

Yes, you can request to complete Industrial Training at your company.

Benefits include meeting academic requirements for BEM Graduate Engineer registration, gaining structured engineering knowledge, increasing employability, and preparing for the pathway to Professional Engineer (Ir.) status.

Current Student FAQ

Students typically complete the programme in approximately two years. Depending on how much subject you have to take for the whole course. Each semester contains a combination of coursework, integrated design projects and industrial training depending on the curriculum.

Students should inform the respective lecturer or programme coordinator immediately.

Assessments include quizzes, assignments, midterms, final exams, and major coursework such as the Integrated Design Project and Industrial Training.

You may contact the programme coordinator or the UNITEN Training & Services office regarding academic, administrative, or technical matters.

Students must pass all required subjects, fulfil industrial training requirements, complete the necessary credit hours, and meet UNITEN’s academic standards to qualify for BEM-GAP completion.

Gap Alumni FAQ

Graduates should apply to the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) for registration as Graduate Engineers. Those changing branches may submit their updated academic transcripts for reassessment.

The certificate does not expire. However, BEM may update registration requirements, so graduates are encouraged to apply for registration promptly after completing the programme.

Contact UNITEN’s programme coordinator or the academic office to request an official replacement copy. Supporting documents may be required for verification.

Some alumni privileges may apply, such as access to UNITEN’s alumni network, career services, or selected workshops. Availability varies and should be confirmed with the alumni office or programme coordinator.

Completion strengthens your engineering profile, meets BEM’s academic requirements, increases job opportunities, and positions you toward becoming a Professional Engineer (Ir.) in the future.
