Impact & Success Stories
IEI contributes to Malaysia’s energy sector by advancing research, consultancy and technical solutions that support safer, more sustainable and resilient infrastructure systems.
National Recognition
IEI’s recognition as a Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) by Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education in 2024 reflects its national significance and research excellence in sustainable energy infrastructure. This recognition was accompanied by a HICoE Research Grant covering the period from March 2024 to February 2027.
Full-Scale Industry Adoption
Bio-VegeGrout Self-Sustaining Ground Stabilisation System (VG3S), led by Assoc. Prof. P. Geol. Gs. Ts. Dr. Rohayu Che Omar, represents a significant UNITEN research-to-commercialisation achievement. The sustainable ground-stabilisation innovation received MySTI certification (STI202601746) and secured RM1 million in commercialisation funding through MRANTI. These accomplishments demonstrate its technological credibility, market potential and readiness for wider industry adoption in slope protection and ground-stabilisation applications.
Pilot Industry Adoption of Solutions
Led by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Badariah Solemon, TNB mySIGHT has been deployed across TNB Distribution Network (DN) since 2017. The system supports approximately 10,000 active users in tracking and managing more than 200,000 distribution assets. Its integration with TNB corporate GIS enables consistent geospatial asset information, efficient field-data validation and improved operational decision-making. Meanwhile, the Grid Reporting and Information System (GRIS), led by Dr. Mohd Zafri Baharuddin, has been deployed across TNB Grid, serving approximately 500 active users and facilitating the submission and management of around 200,000 reports annually. Together, these systems demonstrate the successful enterprise-scale adoption of UNITEN’s digital solutions in strengthening TNB’s asset management, reporting efficiency and data-driven operations.
