Signature Projects
IEI’s signature projects demonstrate its applied research capabilities in ground stabilisation, dam safety, asset management, grid infrastructure and landslide risk monitoring.
Bio-Vegegrout Self Sustaining Ground Stabilisation System (VG3S)
VG3S is a patented green technology that transforms fermented vegetable waste into Vege-Grout, a bio-based soil stabiliser. It reduces erosion and landslide risks, enhances ground and slope stability, decreases cement consumption and carbon emissions, and supports circular, sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure. The Bio-VegeGrout project focuses on developing, validating and commercialising this ground-stabilisation approach, which integrates bio-grouting with vegetation-based protection. Through laboratory research, field validation and industry-scale implementation, the project addresses soil instability, slope erosion and infrastructure risks while promoting environmentally responsible slope rehabilitation and disaster-risk reduction.
The Development of Risk Informed Decision Making (RIDM) for TNB Dam Safety
Risk-Informed Decision-Making for TNB Dam Safety provides a systematic framework for evaluating dam safety risks by integrating engineering assessments, monitoring data, hazard analysis and potential failure consequences. It enables TNB to prioritise inspections, maintenance and mitigation measures based on risk significance, supporting timely, transparent and evidence-based decisions to enhance dam resilience, operational reliability and public safety.
Asset Tracking Mobile Application for TNB Distribution GIS
Asset Tracking Mobile Application for TNB Distribution GIS (TNB mySIGHT) is a mobile and web-based geospatial solution that enables field personnel to capture, locate, validate and update electricity distribution asset information in real time. Its adaptable GIS-based framework can also support asset monitoring and management across sectors such as transportation, telecommunications, water utilities, municipalities, plantations and environmental management.
G.R.I.S Grid Row Inspection System
Grid Right-of-Way Inspection System (GRIS) is a cloud-integrated digital platform developed to automate the right-of-way (ROW) inspection process for transmission line infrastructure. The system includes a mobile application that allows vendors to perform inspections with geotagging, photo uploads, and standardized digital forms. Meanwhile, engineers can monitor inspection activities in real-time through a centralized dashboard, ensuring transparency and faster response. A backend system automates data processing, validates inputs, tags defects, and generates work orders. Hence, GRIS enhances data integrity, improves maintenance workflows, and supports better decision-making while reducing reliance on manual reporting.
Development of Landslide Intelligence Surveillance Risk Management Platform (LISA)
The Development of Landslide Intelligence Surveillance Risk Management Platform (LISA) is an integrated IoT-based slope monitoring and early warning system developed to continuously monitor ground movement at high-risk slopes. The platform integrates wireless sensors, real-time data transmission, web-based visualisation, and automated alert notifications to support proactive maintenance and risk management for critical infrastructure.
