Signature Projects
IEPRe’s signature research and consultancy projects demonstrate its expertise in energy policy, economics, regulation, sustainability and strategic energy planning. Its portfolio supports evidence-based decision-making for government agencies, regulators, utilities, industry and communities.
The Study on Fuel Security for the Electricity Generation Mix in Malaysia, funded by the Energy Commission of Malaysia, examined fuel security and long-term generation planning for the national electricity sector.
IEPRe’s work includes the Blueprint for Electrifying Public Transportation for Malaysia and the Development of an Electric Vehicle Fleet Transition Programme for JPJ Malaysia, both funded by Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
Projects include the Development of an Energy Sustainability Index for Malaysia, funded by the Chair in Energy Economics, and the Study of Measures and Investment for Clean Energy and Power Sector Resilience in ASEAN, funded by the China Foundation and ASEAN Centre for Energy.
IEPRe has undertaken studies on future electricity tariff regulatory models, fairer tariff-setting frameworks, and an enhanced methodology for determining the Value of Lost Load and customer interruption costs for domestic, industrial and commercial users.
Projects cover techno-economic analysis, life-cycle cost assessment, cost-benefit analysis and multi-criteria decision-making. Representative studies include natural gas-based cogeneration, communication systems for 11 kV distribution networks, biomass resource assessment and sustainable biogas production from palm oil mill waste.
IEPRe has contributed to Malaysia’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory, studies on decarbonising energy-intensive industries, and the National Renewable Energy Policy and Action Plan. Its work supports climate policy, emissions reduction and long-term energy transition planning.
Projects include grid-impact assessments, INPRO Nuclear Energy System Assessments for small modular reactors and microreactors, and studies on the potential integration of nuclear energy into Malaysia’s future energy mix.
IEPRe also undertakes community-focused projects addressing energy-transition acceptance and social impact, including education initiatives and a sustainable hydropower project involving communities near Sultan Abu Bakar Dam.
