ISE supports research and industry collaboration through specialised laboratories, pilot plants, field-testing facilities and prototype development platforms. These facilities enable material characterisation, fuel-quality assessment, prototype fabrication, performance testing and practical validation of renewable energy technologies.

Bioenergy Facilities

ISE’s bioenergy facilities support research in biodiesel, green diesel, sustainable aviation fuel, biohydrogen, biogas, biomass conversion and solid biofuel production. Key facilities include a Biodiesel Pilot Plant, a Biohydrogen Reactor and a Circulating Fluidised Bed Combustion Test Bed. The institute also has patented technologies related to green diesel and biohydrogen production.

Renewable Energy Field-Testing and Prototype Facilities

These facilities support the testing and validation of solar photovoltaic systems, wind turbines, combustion rigs, gasifiers and other renewable energy technologies under practical operating and Malaysian climatic conditions.

Photovoltaic Energy Research Laboratory (PERL)

PERL provides advanced characterisation and testing capabilities for photovoltaic materials, solar cells and modules. Its facilities support spectroscopy, material and electrical characterisation, solar simulation, electrochemical analysis, microscopy, thermal imaging, electroluminescence testing and photovoltaic module performance assessment.
