Signature Projects
ISE’s signature projects demonstrate its applied research capabilities in bioenergy, clean fuels, renewable power generation, hybrid systems and technology validation.
ISE has supported the production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil for application in the campus vehicle fleet. The initiative demonstrates how biofuel research can be translated into practical circular-economy and clean-energy solutions.
ISE undertakes research in hybrid solar thermal systems, photovoltaic performance enhancement and solar energy harvesting to support the development of more efficient renewable energy technologies.
The institute develops scalable low-speed wind turbine technologies suited to Malaysia’s climatic and operating conditions, supporting the local application of wind energy solutions.
ISE’s research includes biohydrogen production for fuel-cell applications, biogas generation from waste materials, and the conversion of agricultural and biomass waste into solid biofuel products.
ISE conducts feasibility studies and technology development in micro-hydro systems, renewable energy microgrids, energy storage and hybrid renewable energy harvesting.
Undertaken under ISE’s Higher Institution Centre of Excellence programme, this flagship research theme comprised four sub-projects: a Hybrid Solar PV Mini-Module, a Scalable Modular Low-Speed Wind Turbine, Green Biohydrogen Fuel Production through Dark Fermentation, and Smart Control of Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Harvesting.
